Chapter 8:

Six or seven o'clock was rush hour, and the roads were sometimes good and sometimes bad. Only a few places in the city center were not jammed.

The car kept starting and then stopping. Su Yan looked at his phone screen, tapping on a new friend request and seeing a cute little animal avatar. He accepted the request and changed her name in his contacts.

The image of Luo Tang coming to find him earlier flashed through his mind.

She had stammered out a request to add him on WeChat. Despite the night's shadows, he could see her cheeks were rosy as if she was a little shy.

Her fragrance made Su Yan think of the day they danced together. He had attended many parties and often sat next to female stars who wore strong, richly scented perfumes that made him uncomfortable for a long time.

But Luo Tang’s was different.

It was fresh, sweet, and especially pleasant when carried by the summer night breeze.

After accepting her friend request, Su Yan looked out the car window, with Wang Lin's voice about scheduling still ringing in his ears. "…A couple of days ago, there was a sponsorship offer for us, the same one you asked me to reject last time. They've increased the offer and are still interested, should I…"

Su Yan hummed in response. "Don’t take it, just reply to them."

"I thought so too. The money is good, but it's a bit too low-end…" Wang Lin rambled for a while, then said, "Yan Ge, we have to shoot for the new season's GG endorsement the day after tomorrow. I'll call you in advance."

"Also, I’ve cleared your schedule for tomorrow…" Pausing for a moment, Wang Lin's voice dropped: "It's time for your monthly appointment with Dr. Zhou."

"…"

"Yan Ge, when should I schedule it for?"

"In the afternoon." Su Yan's phone vibrated, and he glanced down to see a cute emoticon from Luo Tang. He stared at the emoticon for a few seconds, then said, "Tell Dr. Zhou…this time it might take a bit longer."

Su Yan remained motionless, his stiffness not apparent until close observation.

"Okay," Wang Lin nodded.

When Wang Lin looked back, he saw Su Yan leaning back in the car seat with his eyes closed. The light from outside fell on his delicate face. It was pleasing to the eye, but unable to hide his exhaustion.

Su Yan wasn’t the first star Wang Lin had managed. When he first started working with Su Yan, he wasn’t famous yet. Wang Lin knew better than anyone how Su Yan had reached his current position over the years.

Others said Su Yan was incredibly lucky, having hit three big projects in a row to achieve his current fame. But only Wang Lin knew that Yan Ge had worked much harder than most in the industry. His experiences and efforts absolutely matched the fame he had received.

Sighing silently, Wang Lin shook his head and took out his phone to message Dr. Zhou.

Meanwhile, Luo Tang had just finished an international call and was now leaning on the sofa with a headache.

The caller was her college best friend and business partner, who could also be considered her boss.

Luo Tang studied at RISD, majoring in fashion design.

As Luo Cheng grew older and Luo Zhou began slowly taking over parts of the Luo family business after graduating from college, the Emperor and Queen doted on their only daughter. Despite Luo Zhou’s poisonous tongue, he had always indulged his sister, allowing Luo Tang to freely choose her college major.

Luo Tang chose her passion and was particularly motivated. When she met that friend and learned she wanted to start her own brand, they hit it off instantly and discovered many shared interests. This prompter Luo Tang to join without hesitation.

Although the journey abroad was challenging, they were fortunate and not short of funds, eventually making a name for themselves.

Her friend's call was to inform Luo Tang that it was time to prepare for the autumn and winter show.

She had planned to celebrate getting Su Yan's WeChat with a hundred fireworks... but now work had come knocking.

It had only been a few days of leisure since her return to the country!

Reluctantly, but dutifully, Luo Tang headed to the study for a video call.

Saturday arrived.

With the time difference between America and here, Luo Tang had stayed up until 2:30 in the morning. Upon waking, she habitually checked in to Su Yan's fan club.

With seven or eight hours until the 8 p.m. broadcast, Luo Tang already saw many posts in Su Yan's fan club saying they were anxious for the new episode, that waiting a week felt like seven years, and some had already watched Su Yan's cuts from the first two episodes for the eightieth time, eagerly awaiting the update.

Seeing this, Luo Tang immediately went to ask for the address of Su Yan's cut compilation in her secondary account, then happily watched it several times.

Although she expected the drama to sweep the trending searches again upon airing, that night's trending topic title was something nobody anticipated — #DivineDance#.

[@GossipSister: There's no one on my homepage who hasn't seen "Our Youthful Days", right? I just want to ask, are these two some deities descended to Earth??? /smile [Video] #DivineDance#]

This post by the verified Weibo account triggered tens of thousands of retweets, making it a major contributor to the trend.

Luo Tang opened it to see a video starting from Su Yan's invitation to dance with her, right until the music ended.

The music was clearly added in post-production, and the brightness, clarity, and light were all impeccable. Although Su Yan didn't look at her after saying his lines…

As Luo Tang watched herself, she appeared foolishly sweet. She was fixated on talking to him amidst the dreamy white suit, fairy dress, and ballroom setting. All of these elements oddly stirred her girlish heart.

The comments, obviously were...

[Just finished watching! I knew people would talk about them! F*ck, the close-ups of Gu Yu and Shi Yin really took my breath away! So satisfying!!!]

[I was shouting all of last week… ready to continue this week… I can do it!!!]

[Gu Yu, if you don't dance with her, I will. Look at me, miss]

[That dress! Who knows where to buy that dress! And the pendant, that little butterfly, look at it! They're all so pretty sobsobsob mom, I want it QAQ]

[F*ck, dancing with my idol… Is this the first woman in the entertainment industry to have such close contact with our God Su??? What luck, I'm so jealous]

……

The last comment made Luo Tang's breath catch.

She remembered the afternoon when she said she didn’t want to watch him film intimate scenes with Liang Ziyue and thus sat in the classroom. Su Yan had smiled helplessly.

He had also seriously said that if he had to do many emotional scenes with the female lead, he wouldn't have taken the role.

"…!!!"

Crazy crazy crazy

Luo Tang threw her phone on the bed, her face red, and went downstairs for a glass of ice water to calm down.

Returning upstairs to her room, in just that short time, she refreshed her feed and another Weibo post popped up.

[@DramaCamp: Okay, the new episode of "Our Youthful Days" is out, and I'm here to rave about Luo Xiao Tang again. First, let's talk about Shi Yin's outfit (because many people asked in private messages). The necklace is a VCA Two Butterfly mother-of-pearl, priced around 60k RMB.

The dress is a Valentino fairy dress from a show, although I couldn't find which season it's from. It's probably from a recent collection, priced around 100k — what's the point of finding out? You can't afford it anyway :)

Lastly, I must rave about this dress: the tulle and this divine nude pink color! F*ck, I really love Luo Xiao Tang's look, I've looped this dance more than ten times. Fairy matched with a fairy brand, I really can't!!!]

The first hot comment under the post was also from this blogger, seemingly adding what she hadn’t finished earlier.

[@DramaCamp: Oh right, forgot to say! Rejecting the fairy herself several times and still remaining unshaken by her charms, I admire you, God Su! I also have to praise Su Yan's concentration and acting skills! Truly awesome!!!]

Luo Tang was stunned.

Concentration..?

Su Yan likely had the fewest NGs on set, no question there, and often, when he did NG, it wasn’t because of him but due to mistakes by his co-actors.

But with her...

Luo Tang recalled and realized... he made more mistakes with her?

This thought appeared in her mind and was immediately rationalized away — even if Su Yan made mistakes, it was probably because of her poor acting!

Yes! Definitely! Su Yan's concentration must be great!

Without hesitation, Luo Tang liked the comment, then continued scrolling.

[F*ck, so beautiful, but a 100k dress, I said I wanted to buy it while watching, bidding farewell with my Alipay]

[Mom, I want it…]

[Together they're over a hundred thousand, sorry daughter, mom can't afford it]

……

The joy of silly netizens was abundant. After reading these comments, Luo Tang went to see the endless praises in Su Yan's fan club and eventually fell asleep like that.

When she woke up the next morning, her phone was still in her hand. It took Luo Tang a moment to realize it was already the next day.

Such a sin! She had fallen asleep without applying a face mask!

She turned over and unlocked her phone, still in the Weibo interface.

With her eyes still blurry, a weird trending term caught her eye right under the search bar.

#YinYuMixCut#, marked as "new."

Huh? What's Yin Yu?

Confused, Luo Tang clicked into the trending topic.

[@YinYuMyNewFave: After watching Gu Yu and Shi Yin dance last night, I was already smitten. Today, Bilibili recommended this to me! F*ck, everyone come see this divine edit! Praise the up!!! [Link]]

"???"

Luo Tang, still not getting it, clicked on the link with a head full of question marks.

Suddenly, she sat up in bed, disbelieving what she saw on the screen —

[Luo Xiao Tang x Su Yan Mix Cut] True Love's Path Is Never Smooth! (CP: Yin Yu)

“???"

Her and Su Yan's mix cut?!

She clicked on the video and was first met with a screen full of barrage comments. Luo Tang blocked the barrage and saw not the edited footage, but a black background with white text, seemingly a preface by the up.

[A message from the poster, please read before watching the video~]

[Cough cough, after watching "Our Youthful Days," I had one thought: Why does the rich princess always have to be the third female role? I'm not happy! I've fallen for Shi Yin played by Luo Xiao Tang!]

[Think about it, a pampered princess chasing after her idol with straightforward tactics, and a dark-hearted idol who is shaken inside but remains cold and distant on the surface! Isn't this CP adorable, sisters!]

[I don't care, even if the whole internet scolds me after this edit, I'll still say it! So what if it's an evil cult?! Yin Yu is awesome! Yin Yu is the best!]

The last slide was in shockingly large font —

[We're evil in the right way! We're an openly shameless b*tch!]

"………"

F*ck, what kind of genius logic is this? You're evil, so you're right?

She hadn't even opened the video, and the first person she thought of was Cheng Cheng, that fool who always talked about "evil cults." She immediately shared the post to WeChat, typing quickly: [Oh my, your favorite is here!]

Luo Tang, speechless but amused, put down her phone, planning to watch it after freshening up.

After completing her morning routine and returning, she saw an unread message on WeChat —

Su Yan: [Hm?]

Luo Tang: "???"

She opened WeChat, about to ask him what's up.

Then she saw the link she had just shared.

Cheng Cheng and Su Yan were both her top contacts, and in her haste, she had sent it to the wrong person. But —

It was too late to retract it.

Luo Tang: [Shared Weibo]-[[Luo Xiao Tang x Su Yan Mix Cut] True Love's Path Is Never Smooth! (CP: Yin Yu)]

Luo Tang: [Oh my, your favorite is here!]

Su Yan: [Hm?]

Luo Tang shivered, and her phone dropped back onto the bed.

"…"

What now? Is it too late to die?
